Lumen

Trace the square: breathe in up one side, hold across the top, then breathe out with a soft sound down the other.

Ponoki listens for breath, not words. Nothing is recorded or saved.

If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, stop and breathe normally.

A box breathing game, no counting required

Lumen draws a square of light and asks you to trace it with your breath. In along one side, hold across the top, out down the other, hold along the bottom. Four counts each, all the way around.

Box breathing is usually explained with numbers, which is fine until your head is too loud to count. So here the counting is the picture. You follow the light, the light keeps the pace, and your breath comes along.

Each completed square locks into a small pattern that builds as you go, so a longer sit leaves something quietly pretty behind. There is no target though. One square is a perfectly good visit.

It listens for your breath out through the microphone so the square moves with you rather than at you. Nothing is recorded, nothing leaves your device, and it works fine if you would rather just watch.

If you were looking for a box breathing timer online, this is that, with a bit more to look at. Free, in your browser, no account.

If you would rather choose the pattern yourself, Breathe is the plain one, and box breathing is among the rhythms it offers.

If you want more, we wrote about how visual breathing anchors work if you want the longer read.
